Spy on Your Website Visitors

Spy

This is so cool. I think. Here’s the spiel:

ETHICALLY spy on your websites visitors. (site no longer exists)

Gather cash-pulling intelligence by watching their every click, movement, and action. Increase sales, sign-ups, and conversions. Yes! We have the technology where a simple line of code on your site can…

This really grabbed my interest, so I tried out the live demo. You move around on the page, click on some stuff, tick a box or two, go to another page, and then watch it all get played back to you! It is so cool!

You can, in a sense, be like a fly on the wall behind your site visitors! It lets you record every mouse movement, click, and action that they perform on your websites. Basically, you get to look into your visitors’ mind and see what leads them to buy from you, or sign up for your newsletter… OR NOT.

This software will allow you to find out WHY your visitors are buying, WHY they’re clicking, WHERE they’re spending most of their time, and even WHY they’re leaving your site. And with what you learn, you can tweak a few things on your site and hopefully increase your conversions, signups, and sales.

It sounds pretty simple to set up. Install a script on either your server or thru your C-panel, and then add a line of code to the pages you want to track. Then log in to your account and spy on your website visitors!

And it’s CHEAP!

It doesn’t cost much. It’s $4.95 to try it out for 2 weeks, and if you want to stick with it, it goes to $37 a month, which I think is not a bad price, considering the possible benefits.

But here’s the thing. Is it really ethical? Or is it an invasion of privacy? Would it bother you to know that your mouse movements were being watched on a website? There’s no identifying info transmitted, just your mouse movements being watched. But it kind of makes me uncomfortable to think about being watched like that. Not that I feel that I’m really being violated, just kinda creeped out. Just a little.

On the other hand, if I was on the spying side, it kind of makes me feel like a kid playing James Bond or I-Spy! Great fun!

So what do you think? From both a surfer’s point-of-view and a site owner’s point-of-view.
